Scripture: “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:7 KJV)
The peace that surpasses all understanding will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. The peace of God is a calming, heavenly rest, that tranquility of spirit given only by God. This peace surpasseth all understanding, it’s a peace that none can comprehend.
Webster’s Dictionary defines peace as a state of tranquility or quiet; freedom from civil disturbance; freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions; a state of peace of mind, thought, or imagination. It also means having harmony in relationships. Those whose minds are stayed on God receive the peace of God. They are not anxious about anything. The peace that surpasses all understanding is the highest form of peace.
“Shall keep” is a military term, which means that the mind would be guarded as a camp or castle. A garrison is a military post, a permanent military installation, to station troops. Your peace would be preserved from the intrusion of anxious fears. Only through Jesus can the mind be preserved in peace. Christ keeps every heart at peace which He dwells and rules.
The key verse to remaining peaceful is found in Phil. 4:8. These instructions on how we are to think in order to remain peaceful. “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” And the peace of God will be with you (v.9b).
Whatsoever things are honest in the sight of men, with respect to God and men. Whatsoever is pure or moral, in words and deeds. Whatsoever things are holy and praiseworthy, things of good report, think on these things. Those who are in right standing with God have the peace of God. He will keep you in perfect peace, those whose mind is steadfast (Isaiah 26:3). Nothing can separate us from the covenant and promises of God which are firm and secure and are fixed on the faithfulness and power of God.
God’s desire is for us to be able to confront positive and negative situations consistently with joy, love, and peace. Each area must exist in balance. Faith in God allows us to experience His peace. This peace is a gift that the world cannot give, and the world cannot take; although it is possible to give your peace away, no one can take it. Jesus laid down His life to make peace between God and sinners and we carry the message of peace. He left us with the “Gospel of Peace.” One must have a personal relationship with God, and receive the peace of God before he or she can deliver the message of the peace of God which transcends all understanding. As Christians we are peacemakers. Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall see God. Be a peacemaker and tell others of the peace and love of God.
Blessings of love from me to you!
