Today’s Scripture: Many will say to me that day, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?” Then I will tell them plainly, “I never knew you, Away from me, you evildoers!” (Matt. 7:22-23 NIV)
Christ is saying that it is not enough to acknowledge Him as Master only in word and tongue, it is necessary that we believe in Him and repent of our sins. We must live our lives holy and have love for one another. For this is God’s will for His children. Let us take notice of resting in outward privileges lest we deceive ourselves and perish eternally. Let everyone that confess the name of Christ depart from sin.
This teaches us to hear and do the sayings of the Lord Jesus. He has laid the foundation, though many build their hopes on worldly possessions, in which all are but sinking sand. Nevertheless, the foundation of God stands sure and is sealed. Let us be earnest and not rest in confusion where by we grasp at, but catch nothing but hell.
Some have the gift of prophesy, but foretell of things to come as Balaam (Num. 22), and Caiaphas (Matt. 26:57-59). They never experienced the gift of the grace of God, but they pretended like the mission and authority was from him. These are but sounding brass and tickling cymbals. They have nothing at all pertaining to true grace or worship.
Many are given gifts and have performed miracles, such as speaking in tongues, removing mountains, drinking deadly poison, healing of all manner of sickness and diseases, preaching, casting out devils and other miracles. Judas for one had the power to cast out devils, yet he could not prevent the devil from entering into him. He could perform miracles, yet he was the betrayer of Christ. To these Jesus said, “I will tell them plainly, “I never knew you, Away from me, you evildoers!”
He know those who are workers of iniquity. He knows those who are under the guise of religion and he knows all of their actions. Nothing is hidden from his sight. Workers of iniquity have their own agenda, they don’t seek the ways of God. They claimed intimacy with Christ, but He repudiates them saying, “Our acquaintance was not broken off, there never was any, therefore, depart from me.” This expression contains the terrible sentence pronounced by Christ. His judgment is banishment from heaven, which makes them acceptable for hell.
Let everyone who confesses the name of Christ depart from iniquity. He will not admit anyone he does not know into his presence or glory. Nevertheless, the foundation of God stands sure and is sealed. In the last day, the Day of Judgment, the great and famous day fixed by God, this day is not known to angels or men. This day will be terrible to some, but joyful to others. This day is the day in which faithful priest and ministers of the Gospel shall be owned by Christ and received into the kingdom of heaven. Now is the day of salvation, repent.
Blessings to you!
