Thou anointed my head with oil; my cup runneth over, (PS. 23:5b KJV).
The origins of anointing was from a practice of shepherds. Lice and other insects would often get into the wool of sheep. When they got near the sheep’s head they could burrow into the sheep’s ears and kill the sheep. Ancient shepherds poured oil on the sheep’s head making the wool slippery. This made it impossible for insects to get near the sheep’s ear because the insect would slide off. From this anointing became symbolic of blessings, protection and empowerment.
As you began your weeks daily service, may God’s holy anointing be upon your head. Don’t allow anything to get near your head to enter your mind that can cause you hurt, harm or distractions. Protect your gates.
May your cup overflow with the oil of joy. Blessings of my love to you!
