Living Water For The Soul

“Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life”; (John 4:13-14 NASB).

There is nothing more refreshing and satisfying as drinking clean crisp water, especially when you’re tired and thirsty. That’s exactly how Jesus felt after he traveled from Judea to Samaria.

In the story of Jesus and the Samaritan Woman, Jesus is sitting at Jacob’s well waiting for her to come and draw water. Upon her arrival she encountered Jesus sitting there. Jesus asked her for a drink of water only as a way to offer her a better quality of water.

At this time in history, Jews had no association with Samaritans, so the woman couldn’t believe that He was speaking to her. She didn’t know that Jesus was there to offer her a drink of living water from the eternal fountain that never ceases to flow.

Unaware that this water was a gift from God, she asked Him where does He get this living water? She listened intently as Jesus explained the details of His offer. She had no idea that He was offering her a lifestyle change.

After she heard the word, the woman became so excited that she anxiously rushed off to town to tell her people about the man she met at the well. The Bible reads, “Many of the Samaritans BELIEVED her testimony and they FOLLOWED her back to Jesus.”

Did you know that every time you open your Bible and start reading, you’re actually drinking living water? Within the pages of the Bible there’s history, mysteries, wisdom, life sustaining principles and eternal treasures that quenches the thirstiest of souls. God’s Word is like a powerful rushing stream of water that never runs dry. It’s the ministry of the Holy Spirit that flows freely within the heart of a redeemed soul that gives life and light to a thirsty soul.

Prayer: As King David longed for water he said, “Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem. My soul is thirsty for God, for the living God!” May you be firmly planted by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season . In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
