WHO IS THE GREATEST?

The disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child to him and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven: (Matt. 18:1-4 NIV).

Jesus is teaching a lesson on humility, and He’s using the most innocent of all human species, little children. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me”;  (Mark 9:36-37 NIV).

“Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” And he laid his hands on them. “And blessed them,” as Mark says; he put his hands upon them, according to the custom of the country, and spoke blessings of prosperity to them”; (Matt. 19:14-15).

Jesus humbled himself and took the time to get to know the children and showered them with love. He turned his back on self-righteous pride and adopts a realistic view of childlike behavior. Our temperament must be of a lowly servant. Jesus is the greatest of all servants. He emptied himself of outward glory by reducing himself to the form of a lowly servant. He humbled himself and became vulnerable, choosing to be revealed as a man. Because of his obedience, God exalted him and multiplied his greatness. The name of Jesus is above all names; (Phil. 2:7-9 TPT). Therefore, whoever humbles himself like a child is honored by God in the Kingdom of Heaven.”

PRAYER: Father, thank you for the opportunity to pray for the current and future posterity of children. Father, there’s a great concern for the children. You instructed us to train up a child in the way that he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it; (Prov. 22:6). Knowing that you already see and understand what the future holds for them, help us to properly train and prepare them for their journey ahead. Give us pertinent information through Your Holy Spirit to share with them that which will help them to endure. Soften their hearts to receive and obey your word. Help them to grow and mature and to see things with eyes of faith. Help them to run their race victoriously. Father, we will remain faithful and steadfast in prayer for them both now and forever. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
